Shoes for standing work – how to choose a model that will relieve your legs?
Do you spend 8 hours on your feet at work? Find out what shoes to choose to avoid back pain and swelling. Cushioning, wide toes and the right insole are essential!

Why do my feet hurt after standing all day?
Standing work is a huge challenge for our feet, spine and circulatory system. Hairdressers, salespeople, pharmacists and catering workers know this best. Leg pain, swelling and varicose veins are common ailments. The key to avoiding them is appropriate footwear. What features must shoes have for standing work?
Cushioning and sole - the foundation of comfort
First of all: depreciation. Shoes must have a thick, flexible sole that absorbs shock when walking and standing on hard surfaces (e.g. tiles). Flat sneakers with a thin sole are the worst choice. Look for models with EVA foam or air systems in the sole. A small wedge or heel rise (approx. 2-3 cm) is healthier than a completely flat shoe because it relieves the Achilles tendon.
Width and material – let your feet breathe
Shoes must be wide in the toes. After a few hours, feet naturally swell, so narrow toes will cause painful abrasions and calluses. Choose models made of natural, breathable materials (leather, mesh) to prevent excessive sweating and bacterial growth. If you work in a place where it is easy to slip, be sure to check whether the sole has anti-slip properties.
Or maybe medical footwear?
Many employees praise preventive and medical footwear, e.g. clogs or Birkenstock flip-flops. Their contoured insole supports the arch of the foot and enforces correct posture. However, remember that such shoes should have a strap that holds the heel - slapping the shoe with each step tires the muscles unnecessarily.
