The first models of jeans were created in Europe in the 19th century, but the version we currently know was created in 1873 by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in San Francisco, which was a small town ravaged by gold fever. Gold diggers needed durable clothes that were cheap and comfortable and therefore easy to produce. Davis and Strauss's innovative idea was to strengthen the seams and pockets with copper rivets. Interestingly, the first denim pants were not fastened with buttons but were tied to the waist. The highest quality model was given the number 501 and they quickly became the working clothes of lumberjacks, farmers and, above all, cowboys. However, the "working class" history of jeans is only a prelude to their great career.
In the 1950s, rebellious American teenagers put on jeans and this was, of course, influenced by big screen stars: Marilyn Monroe (she played jeans in the movie "On the Edge" and James Dean (in "Rebel Without a Cause"). It was then that denim shirts and other accessories appeared. It was then that jeans became a symbol of youth fashion. In the 1970s, jeans became the uniform of rebellious youth. Bell-bottoms, long hair and denim bags that hippies they were sewn from old jeans. In the 1990s, jeans became popular and everything was back in the wardrobe: trousers, shirts, jeans, handbags and headbands. Do you remember that from American TV series? And then the cuts and colors continued to change!
In Poland, jeans appeared in the 1950s. They could only be obtained in exclusive stores - Peweks or second-hand stores where you could buy "surplus" clothes. Back then, they cost several months' salaries and, next to Pepsi-Cola, were the most desired product among young people. Just like in the USA, denim pants were popularized by young stars of the stage and cinema.
However, denim is not only pants and shirts. Denim has also spread to accessories. To this day, you can still meet people wearing a total denim look on the streets. This is a trend from a few seasons ago, but this year denim dominates as an accessory worn on the legs! How about denim shoes?
Denim shoes (or shoes made from denim-like fabrics) could easily add a touch of nonchalance to an outfit or give it a casual look. Wearing denim ballet flats with a skirt will make you look less formal, and denim sneakers with colorful trousers will work great in all summer and weekend stylings. Here they are, do you already have something in mind? :)
