A small piece of material with a huge meaning - everything you need to know about shoe inserts

They are invisible during everyday use of shoes, but they play an extremely important role. Shoe insoles, as we are talking about them, are unfairly disregarded by many people. Don't make this mistake! Find out why shoe inserts are so important, which ones to choose and how to care for them. Let's get started!

What exactly are insoles and what are their functions?

Insoles are small pieces of material whose shape corresponds to the inside of the shoe. Their use serves many functions and brings a number of benefits.

The main purpose of wearing insoles is to ensure comfort when using shoes. By filling the empty space between the foot and the inside of the shoe, they absorb shocks, provide additional support and ensure comfort both during walks and during sports.

What's more, insoles are a great way to keep your shoes fresh. If you clean them regularly, you can be sure that there will be no unpleasant smell in the air when you take your shoes off.

Specialized orthopedic inserts are also available in stores to help correct posture problems. In many cases, they are made to order to perfectly fit the user.

There are also podiatry insoles that help in the fight against halluxes, spurs or corns.

What type of insert should I choose?

Many different materials are used to produce shoe insoles. To help you choose the best pair for you, we have prepared a short list of individual types.

Leather inserts

If your favorite pair of shoes is made of synthetic materials, make sure it has leather inserts. They will provide the necessary support for your feet and at the same time prevent the problem of sweating. Their additional advantage is the fact that they do not take up much space, so you can fit them even in ballerina shoes.

Foam inserts

Foam is one of the most frequently used materials in the production of shoe insoles. It absorbs shocks naturally and can also adapt to the shape of the foot. This makes it convenient to use and often used by athletes. Unfortunately, such inserts can take up a relatively large amount of space, which makes wearing them in some shoes uncomfortable.

Gel inserts

Many women who wear high shoes decide to put gel inserts inside them. Their main purpose is to prevent the foot from slipping. Moreover, they increase its adhesion to the footwear, which ensures a more stable gait.

Should shoe insoles be aired?

Sweaty, wet feet can cause moisture to accumulate in hard-to-reach places in the shoe, which may result in the proliferation of bacteria and fungi. To prevent this, air the insoles regularly.

By doing this regularly, you can also notice any signs of damage. Be sure to replace the inserts if any cracks or dents appear. Otherwise, expect painful blisters and calluses.

How to care for shoe insoles?

To enjoy the good condition of your shoe inserts, you need to take proper care of them. If they show visible signs of use, it's a sign that it's time for care.

Remove leather or gel insoles from your shoes and wash them under running, warm water with soap to remove dirt and unpleasant odors. You can help yourself with a brush with hard bristles. Rinse them thoroughly and leave them to dry completely.

If soap alone does not bring satisfactory results, use dishwashing liquid, which is excellent for removing greasy stains. Using a disinfectant or alcohol will also be an effective method. However, avoid using vinegar, which may increase the persistent smell.

Attention! Not all inserts can be washed under water. Read the manufacturer's instructions to prevent premature wear of the inserts. In many cases, wiping the dirt with a damp cloth is enough.

Remember not to put wet insoles in your shoes. This may increase the multiplication of bacteria and germs. Under no circumstances should you dry them on a radiator, as this may cause the inserts to bend. Shoe insoles should not be dried in direct sunlight. However, it is worth ensuring air circulation by leaving them, for example, in a shaded place on the balcony. Let them dry on their own.

If you have trouble eliminating unpleasant odors, use baking soda. Sprinkle it over dry insoles and spread it evenly. Leave them for several hours, preferably overnight, allowing the baking soda to absorb unpleasant odors. Then shake them off thoroughly and place them back inside the shoe.

How often should shoe insoles be replaced?

If you take proper care of them, shoe inserts can last up to a year with daily use. If you only wear these shoes for special occasions, the insoles should last you for several years.

Give your feet the support they need

Your feet move a lot every day. They are burdened by both practicing sports and standing still for many hours. Shoe inserts can provide them with relief and the support they need.

The cost of purchasing them is low, and the benefits that can result from using them are definitely worth it.
