# 1 Get the right size
Choosing the right shoe size seems to be an obvious matter. However, many runners forget about this aspect and choose oversized sports shoes, fearing that their feet will swell due to their activity.
To keep your running shoes as comfortable as possible, don't compromise on size. Most sports footwear manufacturers use half sizes.
It's best if you try on your running shoes in the evening, when your feet are tired after a hard day. Make sure your fingers can move freely.
Remember that well-chosen sports shoes do not have to "lap in". Choose a size that will fit perfectly right from the start.
# 2 Think about what surface you plan to run on
Do you only run on the treadmill? Or maybe the activity in the forest is the most pleasant for you? Choose shoes with the appropriate sole dedicated to specific surfaces.
Light and flexible shoes will perform better on even, but hard surfaces - sidewalks, paths and treadmills. They perfectly absorb shocks and significantly minimize the risk of possible injury.
For running over an obstacle-free terrain, choose shoes with a deep tread with lugs on the sole that will provide you with excellent traction on uneven ground. Their additional advantage is the perfect ankle support, which is extremely important when running on an uneven surface.
Remember that wearing these shoes for treadmill or sidewalk activity may be uncomfortable. When you plan on running both on roads and forests, choose hybrid running shoes that can handle both conditions.
# 3 Pay attention to cushioning
The thickness of the material under the midsole and the hardness of the foam used, i.e. cushioning, also depend on where you plan to run. Both of these aspects are responsible for absorbing impacts.
Think about how far you plan to travel. If you're preparing for a marathon, choose shoes with more cushioning. On the other hand, shoes with a more flexible sole will work for shorter distances.
Also pay special attention to the so-called shoe sole drop. Exceeding 10 mm will provide your feet with great shock absorption. The downside of this solution is the greater heel effort.
On the other hand, the lower the drop, the more hits the metatarsus takes. This can cause the Achilles tendon to work harder.
If you are just starting your adventure with this sport, opt for traditional shoes with a drop of about 8 mm.
# 4 Take a look at your old shoes
When choosing new running shoes, it is worth taking a closer look at an old pair that is worn frequently. This will give you a great view of how your foot works.
If the sole shows signs of wear on the inside, then you'll need a pair of light textured, stabilizing trainers. Otherwise, you could get injured.
When you notice signs of wear on the outside of the shoe, choose flexible running shoes with a high degree of cushioning. Thanks to this, you will prevent injuries.
# 5 Pay attention to the construction of the shoe
Each part of the shoe has its own purpose. Even the smallest mismatches can make you feel uncomfortable while running. Remember that the lighter the structure of the shoe, the less fatigue you will feel after the run is over.
The upper of a sports shoe is usually made of fabric or modern mesh. Choose a stretchy material that gives your feet the support they need.
It is equally important that the heel does not slip in the shoe, and that its back part does not irritate the ankles or tendons in any way.
Also, pay close attention to the laces. Make sure they are not made of slippery material and will not come loose during activity. Thanks to this, you will prevent possible trips.
# 6 Don't forget the sole
When choosing your running shoes, do not forget to carefully analyze the sole. The tabs contained in it will increase your adhesion to the ground, providing you with stability.
Flexible material will improve elasticity and ensure that running will be a real pleasure. Too stiff soles may make it difficult to bend the foot and cause excessive load, significantly affecting the comfort of use.
# 7 Go for comfort
Some solutions will work for some people, while for others they will be doomed to failure. Remember to choose shoes according to your preferences. Try different models and see which ones you feel best in.
Don't just look at it. First of all, sports shoes should be functional and provide you with comfort while running. How they look is a secondary aspect.
