Preschooler's slippers - five tips for choosing footwear for a young foot

Choosing the right footwear for a preschooler is a real challenge! A child's foot grows so it should not be deformed by incorrectly selected shoes, but what does that really mean? About it today on our blog.

Size

Let's start with the fact that children's footwear should be a little longer than the toddler's foot. Thinking a bit - we mean a maximum of a centimeter! The child's foot grows, but do not buy shoes that are much too large, because the toddler's leg will move in it - and therefore very close to injuries.

It is best to check whether the shoe size is appropriate by putting the shoe on the foot - the toddler should stand in the shoe. The big toe should not touch the end of the shoe - if it is, it means the shoe is too big. The correct size is best checked in open-toed shoes. However, it is worth remembering that the sizes of different companies may differ from each other.

Sole

One of the most important things that guides us when choosing footwear for a toddler is the sole. It should be flexible so that it does not interfere with the natural movement of the foot. It is worth checking if the sole is covered with a non-slip layer, thanks to which the toddler will be able to run freely on flat and relatively slippery surfaces. One of the materials recommended by orthopedists for soles is thermo-rubber. This soft material provides good grip, but also great flexibility. Clasp

Preschoolers are already largely independent, but it is definitely worth keeping the fastening simple, e.g. with Velcro or a latch. Such a clasp is strong, and at the same time the child will be able to try to put on and fasten the shoes by himself. Breathable material

All elements of the slipper, i.e. the sole, insole and upper, should be made of breathable material. A toddler will spend practically the whole day wearing slippers, so it is worth investing in a decent material additionally enriched with antibacterial and antifungal properties.
